About
Stories for Society is a non-profit organization founded in 2010 after a period of research and development concerning the transformational potential of collective story-telling among children: learning becomes more compelling, communication easier and problems more accessible to solve. Since then, we have learned that our method is equally relevant to youth and adults for similar reasons.
What is our aim?
In 1969 Margaret Mead said, ”Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has“. The so-called butterfly effect in modern research, explains the way that the beating of a butterfly’s wings can affect weather patterns in other parts of the world. Small contributions can lead to great changes in the world. Even if we work in small groups, our hope is that the shining ideas and enthusiasm delivered by participants will spread to wider areas, just as the effects of the flapping of a butterfly’s wings can lead to change elsewhere.
We would like to emphasize the importance of play as a catalyst for learning and change. One of the greatest blockages to learning at school and in our working lives emerges when we take things too seriously and become frightened of failure. Thinking comes to a standstill and we become ineffective. Play opens up new ways of thinking, new paths, in a way that does not feel dangerous. It is when we have fun that the creative solutions emerge. Our method includes clear objectives and meaningful guidelines that provide structure, at the same time as it awakens creativity and fantasy.
Why stories?
All that we experience in our world is a series of interpretations – stories – of what we call the reality. We believe in engaging people in important questions by creating a space for them to tell stories in an atmosphere of possibility. It is time for new stories – stories which awaken interest, wonderment, strength, compassion and creativity! If we daily listen to stories that make us feel helpless, we’ve lost before we’ve even begun. If we have limiting stories, we live limited lives.

We are proud and delighted that our organization is multicultural and multi-disciplined, making it possible to practice our method in various languages and forums. We have many gifted co-workers who share our vision and have contributed to making Stories for Society what it is today. Vad är Stories for Society?
Stories for Society är en ideell förening som startades 2010 med syfte att verka för en positiv samhällsutveckling genom tillämpning av en unik metod för kollektiv storytelling. Ändamålet uppnås genom att utveckla och bedriva verksamhet dels i skolor, dels i andra delar av samhället. Verksamheten inriktas på att stödja utveckling av kunskap och förmågor som bidrar till ett hållbart samhälle. Vår särskilda metod för storytelling, processer och material kvalitetssäkras, utvärderas och vidareutvecklas kontinuerligt.
Vad vill vi?

Den välkända “fjärilseffekten” inom den moderna forskningen, berättar också om hur en fjärils vingslag kan påverka vädermönstren runtom i världen. Små insatser kan skapa stora förändringar i förlängningen. Även om vi arbetar med små grupper är vår förhoppning att de briljanta idéerna som deltagarna levererar och deras entusiasm ska spridas som fjärilens vingslag till allt större områden.
Vi vill också betona leken som katalysator i förändringsarbete och inlärning. En av de största begränsningarna i både skola och arbetsliv är när vi tar saker för allvarligt och blir rädda för att misslyckas. Vi skapar då ofta låsningar i tänkandet och blir onödigt ineffektiva. Leken öppnar upp nya tankebanor på ett ”ofarligt” sätt och skapar nya vägar. När vi har roligt släpper vi också på spänningar som annars får oss att hålla inne med annorlunda lösningar. Vår metod har tydliga mål och meningsfulla ramar som håller strukturen, men skaparlusten och fantasin formar det nya.
Varför just stories?
Allt vi upplever i vår värld är en serie av tolkningar – stories – av vad vi kallar verkligheten. Vi tror på att engagera människor i viktiga frågor genom att låta dem berätta historier utifrån ett möjlighetsperspektiv. Det är dags för nya berättelser – berättelser som väcker lust, förundran, kraft och kreativitet! Om vi ensidigt lyssnar på historier som får oss att känna maktlöshet, förlorar vi innan vi börjat. Om vi har en begränsande berättelse, lever vi ett begränsat liv.

Vi är stolta och glada över att vår organisation är multi-kulturell och omfattar olika professionella områden. Det gör det möjligt för oss att arbeta på flera språk och använda metoden i olika sammanhang. Vi har många begåvade medarbetare som delar vår vision och som bidragit till att forma Stories for Society till vad det är idag. Bland dessa finns våra styrelsemedlemmar (se filmen nedan).
