Voices Between: Towards Action
New Voices is a global collective of storytellers with strong personal ties to, and knowledge about, World War II and the Holocaust. We are members of the generation of the grandchildren convinced that peace depends on never forgetting, but also seeking out and finding ways to enact the lessons that come from remembering. We aspire to do so in ways that are meaningful to new generations.
Each of us has been recognized in his/her own right (e.g. as established writers, scholars or artists), each having a platform that can help to bring reach and momentum to our joint initiative. Our shared mission is to contribute to resilient humaneness in civil society (and by extension, the public sector) by engaging people in an unvarnished creative conversation about history, its reverberations, the responsibilities it confers including the application of its lessons, and the consequences for our perceptions about ourselves. We strive to give rise to a commonly owned vision of peace.
Each of us has explored, through words and imagery, characters and life stories that have been profoundly shaped by war and genocide. We have examined in detail, both in our art and other dimensions of our past academic and professional lives, what the rise of extremism looks like. Our goal is to share our learning journeys and the questions they generate by engaging with one another and the wider community, in a new joint public platform, so that we can advance our mission.
Expanding our network
We are building an international network of members, established authors writing about peace and war, and affiliates, persons and organizations that identify with our mission and would like to engage with us in projects.
